Glazed with a garlicky sweet chili sauce, this pan-fried salmon is an easy 20-minute weeknight dinner and a family-friendly option!
This sweet chili glaze has only 4-ingredients: Thai sweet chili, soy sauce, garlic and ginger! Just pour the sauce over the pan fried salmon and it becomes a delicious caramelized glaze.
where can I buy Thai Sweet Chili sauce?
Most supermarkets carry Thai Sweet Chili sauce. I bought the bottle below by The Ginger People at Whole Foods. Other brands that make Thai Sweet Chili sauce are Mae Ploy, Thai Kitchen and A Taste of Thai.
how to prep the salmon
- Pat both sides of the salmon with a paper towel so that it’s completely dry. This process will ensure the salmon from sticking to the pan while cooking and it will also give it a nice golden crust.
- Season the salmon with kosher salt and cracked black pepper.
- You can cook the salmon filets as is or you can cut them into 1.5″ bite size pieces.
- Skin-on or Skin-off? This is a personal preference! If you prefer to remove the skin then I recommend cooking it as a filet. This will prevent the salmon from breaking apart in the pan.
what can I serve sweet chili salmon with?
Any sides will pair well with this salmon dish! I like to serve my sweet chili salmon over a bowl of rice with a side of blanched baby bok choy with garlic sauce.
It’s a great healthy-ish option for the family for those busy weeknights! Enjoy!
Easy 20-Minute Sweet Chili Salmon
Ingredients
- 1.5 lbs salmon (or four 6 oz filets) cut into 1.5" inch pieces (optional)
- 1/3 cup Thai Sweet Chili Sauce
- 4 tbsp soy sauce
- 1 tbsp finely minced garlic
- 1 tbsp grated ginger
- 2 tbsp water
- 2 scallions chopped
- 2 tbsp neutral cooking oil avocado, vegetable or canola oil
- kosher salt + cracked black pepper
Instructions
- Pat both sides of the salmon with a paper towel. Then season with salt and black pepper and set aside.
- In a bowl, whisk together the Thai sweet chili sauce, soy sauce, ginger, garlic and water.
- Heat a pan over medium-high heat and add the oil to the pan. Once the oil is heated, transfer the salmon to the pan skin-side down first. Sear both sides for about 2-3 minutes until cooked to desired temperature. During the last minute of cooking, pour the sweet chili sauce over the salmon and add the scallions. Then lower the heat. Let the salmon simmer in the sauce for about 1-2 minutes until the sauce thickens.
- Garnish with more scallions and serve the salmon over a bowl of rice with a side of veggies. Enjoy!
