key ingredients in soy glazed chicken
- Boneless Skin-On Chicken Thigh: I prefer the skin-on for this recipe because of its crispy texture. However, if you prefer the skinless chicken thighs, that is totally fine. You’ll just need to decrease the cooking time slightly.
- Five Spice Powder: Five spice powder is a blend of cloves, star anise, cinnamon, Sichuan peppercorns and fennel seeds. Most supermarkets carry Five Spice powder in the spice aisle.
- Soy Sauce
- Honey
- Five Spice Powder
- Sesame Oil
- Garlic
- Ginger
- Scallions
Easy Soy Glazed Chicken
Ingredients
- 4 chicken thighs boneless with skin-on
- 2 large cloves of garlic minced
- 1 tsp ginger minced
- 2 scallions roughly chopped
- 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
- 3 tbsp soy sauce
- 3 tbsp honey
- 1 tsp sesame oil
- 3 tbsp neutral cooking oil avocado oil, peanut oil
- 1 tsp five spice powder
- 2 tbsp water
- kosher salt + black pepper
Instructions
Honey Soy Glazed Sauce
- In a bowl, combine the soy sauce, honey, water, sesame oil, five spice powder, garlic and ginger. Whisk all the ingredients together and set aside.
Prep the Chicken
- Generously season the chicken thighs with salt and pepper.
- Add the flour to a plate or tray. Lightly coat the chicken with the flour and shake off any excess flour. Then transfer the coated chicken to a plate.
- Set a large skillet or cast iron pan over medium high heat. Add 3 tbsp of oil to the pan. Once the oil is heated, add the chicken. Cook the chicken for about 4-5 minutes on each side. (If the chicken is browning too quickly on one side, lower the heat.) Remove the chicken from the pan and set aside.
- In the same pan, pour in the sauce and decrease the heat to medium. Stir the sauce with a spoon and let it simmer for about 30 seconds.
- Then add the chicken back into the pan and add the scallions. Cook the chicken in the sauce for about a minute and then remove the pan from the heat.
- Serve over a warm bowl of rice. Garnish with sesame seeds and serve immediately. Enjoy!
